Our first celebrity interview is with the legendary Danny Wood of New Kids of the Block fame! Danny grew up in Dorcester and is currently living in Miami, Florida. Interview questions were compiled from the SouthShoreMuse.com audience. Thank you so much Mr. Wood for allowing us to interview you for our local music support site- southshoremuse.com! This interview was conducted through e-mail.
What are you doing these days? DW: I am a finacial consultant to musicians, actors, producers, etc. I try to help them invest their money more intelligently. What is your happiest memory from a performance? DW: It was at the House of Blues in Cambridge, 2003. I got to showcase my solo record "Second Face" that was being released in Germany. I wrote and produced it. It is what I am still most proud of. What is the best story you could tell of your experiences on the road? DW: Imagine an un-named member of NKOTB eating a bucket of KFC hotwings regularly. The problems this person had with their bowel movements... What is your biggest regret from your years in the group? DW: I only one- the cover of our nightmare Christmas Album. The ablum itself was thrown together. It could have been much better. It is reported there were bad feelings during the break up of the group. Would you comment on that? DW: No bad feelings at all. We are brothers and always will be. Do you still speak to any of the members of the KNOTB? DW: Yes, some more frequently than others. You released an album in 2003 entitled Second Face. How did you feel about this recent recording? Did you write the music/arrangement or just the lyrics? Can you tell us a little about this album? Is it available in stores? DW: It is my life set to music, things I have expierienced and I siezed the opportunnity to put my feelings over the kind of music i feel was best for my voice.. I wrote and arranged everything. I had lots of input from friends. My co-producer Pete Masitti also wrote lots of the tracks with me. It is an emotional, heartfelt ride. It is only available now by contacting www.empiremusicwerks.com Do you ever think you will participate in a reunion tour? DW: I have no idea, but i would do it. Are you currently writing or performing? DW: I always write, I am not performing. My work keeps me pretty busy. Do you think you will release another solo album in the future? DW: I don't know. Do you favor any particular producers or recording studios on the South Shore? DW: No, I did most of my album in my house. It is alot easier to set up a home studio these days. I started engineering at 15, so I am a hands on type of guy. Are there any up-and-coming artists from the Boston area that you feel have potential to become a big National Act? DW: I am really not up to speed on anything up there. I live in Miami now. How often do you return home to Boston/Dorcester? DW: I am back often, all of my family and friends are there. I will be back for New Years. While in Boston, do you ever go out and listen to live original music? If so, where? DW: Haven't been recently, unless you count the older guy who sings at The Eastbay in Plymouth. What advice could you give to any struggling artists on the South Shore? DW: Do everything you possible can to make things happen for yourself. You can't count on other people in the music biz. It is a ruthless business. Practice, write, record, perform, promote your own music as much as possible, be determined and diciplined. |
